Getting inspiration for a game
So this weekend I’m at Startup Weekend – a startup marathon where you develop a project (prototypes and the whole shit) in 54 hours. It’s good for your mind and creativity, so I joined the Gaming Track and joined a small team of three to build a serious game for highschool kids, who needs to figure out a career path. I helped the founder of the idea brain storming for options making this game social. And now I left the team after 24 hours of work, to work on my own game – a game helping young kids learn about vitamins through a strong story and gameplay. Right now I’m trying to mock up a simple gameplay in the tool called Balsamiq – which is great if you’re not doing Photoshop etc.
I ran into a GREAT game in app-store called Paper Monsters. It’s a simple gameplay inspired by Super Mario. The game world is very colorful, and your character is a cardboard box, who you can dress up in different cardboard outfits – if you have enough gold buttons to by the stuff. Anyway it’s fun and very pretty, and it’s half off until the end of this month:)So eventhough I won’t be pitching with a team, I’m glad I went because I got so much inspiration to my own gaming career to be!

Indie Games – The Movie
Last week Game Developers Conference was held in San Francisco – and there Indie Games – The Movie received a standing ovation from the audience. The movie is currently touring in the US, but will be released on DvD in april, and it a MUST if you’re into the gaming industry. I can’t wait to see more than the trailer! Also another movie named US and The Game Industry is currently being produced, and will be open for online streaming later this year.
